Marquette Audio Labs Custom Racking

MARQUETTE AUDIO LABS Packages (racks) come in a beautiful, Rack mountable, gray Hammer tone finish Steel Chassis. Most packages feature Internal power and phantom supplies shielded from the modules and/or the Xlrs. (Note: External PSU is available and used on certain packages). Normal features include: Power On/Off, Phantom On/Off, Phase, Input Pad, D.I.s etc... which are on the grained, clear anodized Front Panel. (Note: Features Vary Per Package). Xlrs, 3 Pin Universal AC socket & Fuse On the back of the chassis.
Marquette Audio Labs Packages have a look as if they were racked in the 60's, but Brand New! We try to keep the look of the equipment we are working with and think this is the way a studio "custom shop" would of done it "back in the day". So we try to stay away from silk screen and more modern looks.
Marquette Audio Labs Custom Racking... Quality Inside and Out
Like the saying goes ... "you get what you pay for"
Rhett Lawerence, Producer / Engineer (Kelly Clarkson, Mariah Carrey, Christina Aguilera...) called and wanted to check out some preamps for the album project he was doing. I sent Rhett several packages, one of which was the V672 w/ W695 EQ pair package, which was later purchased from fellow producer/ engineer Olle Romo (Corrs, Christina Aguilera...), as well as a pair of V72's. He used the V672 for KELLY CLARKSON's vocal on the single "Miss Independent" (along with a
MERCURY M66 leveling amplifier and a
MERCURY EQ-P).
After that Rhett was torn between the V672 (discrete class A brother to the V72) and the original V72 (tube preamp). They both sound similar yet different slightly at the same time due to that one is discrete and the other is tube. So we came up with the crazy soluation of putting one of each in the same rack as well as a Telefunken W695 (Discrete) EQ, all with independent I/O. This was a TOTAL custom one off job but Rhett needed a variety of tones in one package. MAL is here to build what ever will serve our clients best. I was very happy the way it came out.
Neumann is while famous for their classic microphones of the 50s and 60s but they also had their hand in some other great pro audio as well. These modules were from a German console used for broadcast as well as recording.
The V476 preamp is very nice soundind and the Class A/B topology is built to fit in this small housing (module) in a way that is an amazing engineering feat. Leave it to the German to pull off such a task... suppurb crafsmanship and sound. 0 - 70 dB of mic gain and a 0-10 fine gain lets you get where you need to be easily. There are also filters that can be bypassed as well as a phase reverese switch with LED.
The Neumann W491 EQ is also a BIG EQ in a very small package. 3 band EQ, 11 EQ points per band as well as a "broad / sharp" or Hi Q per band and Bypass for the EQ. The sound is smooth, a little character but not over powering. This will let you get in there and cut things up if needed. Mix / Master quality.
TDI (transformer direct input) is always an option per channel.
This rack was custom built for Sky Greenawalt. It houses two Neve 1290 modules that are similar to what we consider a "1272" Preamp today. These modules were in consoles and used as extra preamps.
The modules have 20 - 80 dB of gain as well as selectable input immpedance. Great modules... the real deal unlike a 1272 which is a line amp in its stand alone (raw, unmodified) state.
These WSW compressors were dismantled from console "strips" from a WSW console and custom racked for
MAL's good buddy JIMMY ZUMPANO at Stonehenge Recording in Atlanta, GA. Check him out at
www.zacrecording.com. Jimmy has a GREAT studio
and it is usually stocked with Sweetwater 420... an amazing ale that is brewed and bottled in ATL !
2 Sphere EQs and 6 WSW (Siemens) EQs in a custom 5 space chassis (used on Lenny Kravitz's 5th album, at Roxie)
All packages have an Output Fader, Phantom on / off with LED per channel and Power on / off for the package.
The durable 2 space steel chassis shown have Marquette Audio Labs custom gray hammer tone finish. Front panels are made of
thick (3/16") Aluminum, grained and clear anodized. On the back of all packages there is a Fuse holder, 3 Pin AC socket on
the left and Mic / Line Input and Line Output XLRs per channel on the right.
Direct Inputs per channel (using Jensen D.I. transformers are also available as an extra option).
